International Applicants

International applicants are subject to the required application steps outlined in Application Process with the additional considerations explained below. If you are unsure if you qualify as an international applicant, please see the TAMU Admissions International Graduate page for information.

English Proficiency Requirements
  • All international graduate applicants whose native language is not English must attain English proficiency verification to be admitted
  • Once admitted, international students who are offered a graduate teaching assistantship must also attain English proficiency certification to become eligible to teach at TAMUG

Please click here for more details.
International Transcripts
  • You must submit official transcripts for all post-secondary institutions attended. To be considered official, transcripts must have the signature of a school official or an original school seal.
  • You must submit proof of an earned bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) or higher. An official statement of the award of the degree or diploma is required for each degree completed.
  • Transcripts not issued in English must be accompanied by an official English translation prepared by a recognized translation service and include all original seals and/or signatures.
  • International transcripts should be sent to the Office of Admissions in College Station.

Please refer to the TAMU Admissions International Graduate page for more details about requirements and instructions for submitting of international transcripts.

Applying for a Visa
Once an international student is offered admission to a TAMUG graduate program, they will need to accept their admissions offer, submit official transcripts, and provide proof of English proficiency as outlined above to be fully admitted. Then students can request the documentation  from International Student Services required to obtain a student visa. Please click here for more information about applying for a visa.

Additional Considerations

Cost of Attendance and Funding
Cost of Attendance and Funding

Applicants should be advised that there are no specific scholarships or funding opportunities for international graduate students at TAMUG. However, all applicants may pursue various other forms of student financial support, including graduate assistantships, which can significantly reduce the cost of attendance.

Accommodations and Transportation
Accommodations and Transportation

International students are encouraged to consider on-campus housing at the Galveston Campus during their first semesters. Many new international students have found this option to be more convenient and affordable because there is no public transportation on and off Pelican Island, where the campus is located.

Health Insurance
Health Insurance
International students are required to have health insurance coverage for the entire period of their enrollment at TAMUG. Keep in mind that students on a graduate assistantship can enroll in employee health insurance. Please click here to learn more about health insurance and how to meet the requirement.
