AAUS Scientific Diving    

Do you plan to conduct research underwater?

If so, the AAUS Scientific Diving Course may be a good fit for you. Learn the proper techniques to collect diving-based data through training that will build you into a competent and confident underwater researcher.  

This class is offered during Fall semester only.

Certifications Received When Completed in Conjunction with Field Experience in Scientific Methods: 

  • AAUS Scientific Diver
  • DAN Emergency Oxygen Provider

Prerequisites: 

  • Student must have a current and complete TAMUG Scientific Diving physical examination on file
  • Students must hold Master Level Diver's Alert Network (DAN) Diving Accident Insurance (or equivalent) for the full duration of the course
  • Students must hold certifications in Advanced Open Water and Nitrox Diving (or have approval of the instructor)
  • Students must have completed, or be able to complete, First Aid, AED, O2 Administration, and CPR certifications, including hands-on skill evaluations, prior to any open water work. 
  • Students must complete the TAMUG Scientific Diving Swim Test prior to any in-water work.
