Galveston Campus Quick-Look Assessment Report

December 11, 2023

Dear Sea Aggie Family,

Texas A&M University has navigated a multitude of difficult conversations and changes over the last year. We have consistently received messages in support of the Galveston Campus’ initiatives, concerns, needs, etc. from Interim President Mark A. Welsh III since his appointment this summer. He is strongly in support of identifying a variety of avenues to place our campus in the spotlight as leaders in the development of the blue economy in the Gulf Coast through education, innovation, discovery, scholarship, and service.

With this recent assessment and President Mark Welsh’s support, we are closer to articulating a clearer vision of our university’s future. Please join me in thanking Vice President Joe Pettibon and his team for their hard work reviewing the initial Path Forward recommendations, encouraging and compiling input from important campus stakeholders and finally, developing the assessment report providing the most comprehensive look at our campus to date.

As leader of the Galveston Campus, I echo Interim President Welsh’s sentiment expressing the importance of your feedback which will be critical in guiding him as he molds and finalizes the decisions that will drive the future of our campus. The survey will remain open through the holiday break until January 5, 2024, to allow ample time for comment and feedback. Once the data are compiled, President Welsh will visit the Galveston Campus in early 2024 to share his final decisions.

I hope you all take this opportunity to have your voices heard. As always, thank you for your continued support in making our campus an excellent place to live, learn and work.

Thanks & Gig ‘Em!

- Mike
