License Option Tuition Fee Change FAQ
Below are some frequently asked questions regarding the new license option tuition changes. For additional information on these changes or to inquire about enrolling in a license option program at Texas A&M University at Galveston, please email admissions@tamug.edu.
If I have already applied to Texas A&M University at Galveston for a license option program, can I still take advantage of this change in the tuition charges?
Yes! All students currently enrolled in or entering a license option program for fall 2024 and beyond will be under the new tuition and fee structure.
If I am a current student will my tuition and fee charges change?
If you are currently in a license option program at Texas A&M University at Galveston, you will see a change in your tuition and fee charges starting with the fall 2024 semester.
I am a resident of Puerto Rico or Panama. Does this change affect me?
Yes! Residents of Puerto Rico and Panama are now considered in-state for tuition purposes in all Texas A&M University at Galveston license option programs.
What if I'm in the Maritime Academy but not in a license option program?
If you are in a degree program that does not have a license attached to it, you will not see any changes in your tuition and fee charges for the fall 2024 semester related to this change.
Which degree programs are available as a license option?
The following programs are available with a license option:
- B.S. in Marine Transportation;
- B.S. in Marine Biology;
- B.S. in Marine Sciences; and
- B.S. in Marine Engineering Technology.
Which states will now be considered in-state for tuition and fee charges for license option programs?
The following states will now be considered "in-state" for tuition:
- Texas;
- Louisiana;
- Mississippi;
- Alabama;
- Florida;
- Puerto Rico; and
- Panama
Which states will now be considered in-region for tuition and fee charges for license option programs?
The following states will now be considered "in-region" for tuition:
- Oklahoma;
- New Mexico;
- Arkansas;
- North Carolina;
- South Carolina; and
- Georgia
If I am not from one of the states now mentioned in the in-state or in-region tier, will my tuition and fee charges increase?
No, no student will be charged more than the current 24-25 Non-Resident LO tuition and fee charges.
What if I did not originally apply for a license option program? Is it too late to add it to my degree?
Not at all! Please contact the Office of Admissions at admissions@tamug.edu to notify them of the change. You will also need to submit a Texas A&M Maritime Academy application prior to being accepted into a license option program. The following degrees can have a license option added:
- B.S. in Marine Biology
- B.S. in Marine Sciences
- B.S. in Marine Engineering Technology
The license option for a B.S. in Marine Transportation is mandatory.
