SEED Minor with Teaching Certification    

Prepare to be a part of a rapidly growing profession and make a difference for the next generation. The Secondary Education (SEED) minor offers TAMUG undergraduates a change to prepreare a career in reachng while earning their degree.

Program Options    

 Students may pursue one of the following certification fields:

-Life Science- Major in Marine Biology, Coastal Environmental Science and Society, or Oceans and One Health

-Chemistry- Major in Marine Sciences or Oceans and One Health

-Physical Sciences- Major in Marine Sciences or Coastal Environmental Science and Society)

-Composite Science- Major in Marine Biology

Program Eligibility    

Students must meet these minimum requirements to be considered for the program:

  • Currently enrolled as a TAMU undergraduate
  • Minimum of 3 semesters remaining
  • 12-15 certification credit hours
  • 2.75 overall GPA in undergraduate coursework
  • 2.5 minimum GPA in major-area content hours

Program Components    

The significant components of the program include: 

• All SEED minor requirements 

• One semester of clinical teaching 

• Two TExES certification tests:

1. content specific test

2. Pedagogy and Personal Responsibilities (PPR) test 

SEED Minor Requirements    

Student must meet all course requirements for a total of 18 semester credit hours (SCH). Students must make a grade of “C” or better in all courses. A 2.5 GPA is required in minor courses to pursue teacher certification. Substitutions must be approved by the Department of Teaching, Learning, and Culture advisors. The TEFB and MEFB courses require a field-based experience in a local setting. Currently, TAMUG students will be placed at Galveston Independent School District (any middle or high school) or Odyssey Academy (middle or high school).

All courses except INST 210 and 222 required official admission to the SEED minor.

INST 210: Understanding Special Populations (3 SCH)  

INST 222: Foundations of Eduaction in a Multicultural Society (3 SCH)  

RDNG 372: Reading & Writing across the Middle Grades Curriculum (3 SCH)  

CLINICAL 1: CODE OF ETHICS, TEA TRAINING

TEFB 322: Teaching and Schooling in Modern Society (3 SCH, field 1/2 day/week)  

CLINICAL 2: 240 TUTORING MODULES AND PRACTICES EXAMS

TEFB 324: Teaching Skills II (3 SCH, field 1/2 day/week)   

CLINICAL 3: PPR PREPARATION, 240 TUTORING

TEFB 406: Science in the Middle and Secondary School(3 SCH, field 1/2 day/week)   

CLINICAL 4: ADDITIONAL SEMESTER

MEFB 497, TEFB 429, or TEED 425: Clinical Teaching (6,9, or 12 SCH, Full semester in field) 

Clinincal teaching hours do not count towards the SEED minor, but graduation upon completion of Clinical 4.
