Why did you become an academic advisor? I became an academic coach because I am passionate about education and the power it has to transform one’s life. I believe that every student has the potential to be successful with support from others and personal effort. Coaching allows me to aid students in developing their academic abilities so they can reach their personal goals and grow as individuals.
What is your favorite thing about the TAMUG experience? The sense of community at TAMUG is truly exceptional. The Galveston campus allows students to be a part of the Aggie family while also receiving the personalized support that a small campus community can provide.
What is your best advice for incoming students? Identify your motivation for going to college and use that as your drive to persevere through challenges. Your classes will likely be more difficult than expected and the amount of work involved may be surprising. Reminding yourself daily of your reason for being here can give you the inspiration to keep going. If you feel discouraged or “stuck,” do not forget that there are so many people on campus who are passionate about supporting you. Do not hesitate to ask for help!
What do you do when you are not advising/coaching/working? When I am not working with students, you can find me volunteering at the humane society, reading, spending time outdoors, or cooking vegan meals. I also like exploring Galveston and meeting new people.
What else should students know about you?
I wholeheartedly believe that you can do this. You were accepted to TAMUG, you belong, you are an Aggie. Asking for help, struggling, or feeling lost are not failures. There are hundreds of people on campus that believe in you and are enthusiastic about helping you. If you need support, schedule an academic coaching appointment with me on Navigate. I look forward to meeting you!
