Get To Know Dini Adyasari

What in your life drew you to your current field of study?

I read a National Geographic article on Chernobyl and its environmental and health legacy to the surrounding environments in high school. At that moment, I decided to major in fields related to environmental science and engineering.

I learned more about coastal hydrogeology during my doctoral study. I decided to pursue more research on coastal groundwater quality, quantity, and movement because it is generally less studied than surface water. Case in point? Looking up "subterranean estuary" vs. "estuary" in Google Scholar gives 21,000 vs. 1,240,000 hits. Much physical, chemical, and biological knowledge can still be explored in this field, making it more challenging and appealing to investigate.

What do you hope your students gain from studying or working with you?

Problem-solving capacity, scientific curiosity, environmental awareness, and knowledge of hydrogeological systems.

What are you passionate about in your personal life?

I enjoy traveling and exploring new places, reading (true crime, Nordic noir, polar exploration), growing pots of ghost pepper, and watching Indonesian badminton games.
