Learn Anytime

Information Literacy is the ability to locate, evaluate, use, and organize information. TAMUG Librarians have designed a number of asynchronous sessions which allow students to learn about information literacy in a self-paced, online environment. From a brief orientation, to advanced research in the sciences, these lessons include video presentations, demonstrations, helpful tools, and learning assessments.

Objectives

  • Learn the definition of a library database as well as the various types of articles (scholarly/trade/popular) available
  • Understand the technical requirements necessary to access and search you library's databases
  • Learn and practice specific strategies including database limiters and Boolean operators as tools for refining a search
  • Recognize supplemental tools and resources for database searching best practices

Objectives

  • Learn to critically evaluate information resources while searching and reading.
  • Consider how format may affect how information is perceived.
  • Understand and apply the CRAAP Test to evaluate resources.
  • Understand and apply the SIFT guidelines to evaluate online resources.

  • Understand what Google Scholar is and how it searches for scholarly research materials
