Non-math majors can obtain a minor in mathematics by meeting the requirements below. The courses offered at TAMUG by Foundational Sciences that will fulfill the requirements for the Mathematics minor are outlined below. Students who are majoring in engineering or one of the sciences might not need to take more than another 18 to 24 hours to get a double major in mathematics and should contact their advisors or the mathematics department.

A list of additional courses that may not be offered in Galveston can be obtained from the Department of Mathematics website.

General Requirements    

To obtain a minor in Mathematics:

  • Complete the required Proposed Minor Field of Study form and return it to delld@tamug.edu for approval. Approval must be obtained prior to applying for graduation.

  • Complete the required courses outlined below

  • Obtain a C or better in each course for the minor

  • All 300 and 400 level courses must be taken at TAMU or TAMUG

  • Math 365, 366, 367, 368, 403, and 485 will NOT satisfy the math minor.

  • Only one of Math 323, 304, 309, or 311 can be taken to satisfy the minor, due to the course content.

  • None of Math 131, 141, 142, 365, 366, 367, 368, 403, or 485 may be used to satisfy requirements.

  • Math 485 will receive approval only under exceptional circumstances.

  • Total Credits needed: 17 credit hours

  • When completed and approved, the minor will be designated on your transcript
