July 11, 2024  I  3:00 p.m. Update

Classes and remote work are canceled for tomorrow, Friday, July 12, due to continued widespread regional power outages. The campus has experienced minimal impacts beyond the power outage from Hurricane Beryl.

  • Classes and remote work are canceled for Friday, July 12. Contact your supervisor or instructor if you need to make alternate arrangements or have questions.
  • Sea Campus Kids Day Camp is canceled for Friday. Staff will be reaching out to campers to discuss rescheduling and/or refund options.
  • Due to the continued power outages on campus and unknown restoration times, and in the interest of the safety and comfort of our campers, university officials are requiring residential sea campers to be picked up tomorrow afternoon between 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. For those unable to do so, please call or text 409.789.6213 to speak with a Sea Camp staff member to discuss alternate accommodations.

 
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Campus facilities are open for lab access, and faculty/staff may check on their interests. Police are patrolling for alarms.
  • Waterfront Pavilion is open to campus residents with ID for cooling and power stations.
  • Captain’s Landing is open to campus residents with ID from:
    • Breakfast: 7:30 – 9 a.m..
    • Lunch: 11 a.m.. – 1 p.m.
    • Dinner: 5 – 7 p.m.
  • The mailroom will be open Friday from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm for USPS mail & package pickup. Additional updates will be provided as delivery arrangements are established with other carriers.

Due to continued widespread regional power outages, classes and remote work are canceled for tomorrow, Thursday, July 11. The campus has experienced minimal impacts beyond the power outage from Hurricane Beryl.

  • Sea Campus Kids Day Camp is canceled for Thursday. Staff will be reaching out to campers to discuss rescheduling and/or refund options.
  • Sea Camp Residential Camp continues to operate under modified programming. However, due to continued power outages with an unknown restoration time and current heat advisories, university officials ask that families or caregivers willing to pick up their campers early may do so as their resources allow. This is a voluntary request; campers may choose to stay through the remainder of camp. Call 409.789.6213 with additional questions or concerns.

Classes and remote work are canceled for Tuesday, July 9, due to widespread regional power outages and to allow campus restoration and recovery from Hurricane Beryl's impacts. Known campus impacts include power outages and minimal driven rain infiltration of some buildings. Power restoration is unknown at this time, and an assessment team is on site.

  • Sea Campus Kids Day Camp is canceled for Tuesday. Staff will be reaching out to campers to discuss rescheduling and/or refund options.
  • Sea Camp Residential Camp continues with modified programming to ensure camper comfort and safety. However, lack of power and air conditioning may make sleeping uncomfortable. Should any caregiver wish to pick up their campers, they will be able to do so after 4 p.m. today.   • Campus facilities will be open for all who need to access labs or other essential needs.

Due to regional conditions caused by Hurricane Beryl, classes and remote work are canceled today, July 8.
 
Travel to and from Pelican Island is strongly discouraged. Students, faculty and staff should carefully monitor road conditions before traveling and make decisions in the best interest of your personal safety.

Hazardous conditions are expected overnight into Monday afternoon, and access to Pelican Island will likely be impacted. Travel is strongly discouraged. Students, faculty and staff should carefully monitor road conditions before traveling and make decisions in the best interest of your personal safety. Texas A&M University at Galveston is moving to remote operations and instruction on Monday, July 8 due to continued uncertainty regarding Hurricane Beryl. Please contact your supervisor or instructor if you need to make alternate arrangements or have questions.

  • Sea Campus Kids Day Camp is canceled for Monday. Staff will be reaching out to campers to discuss rescheduling and/or refund options. 
  • Sea Camp Residential Camp is not impacted and will continue as scheduled. 

Uncertainty remains with Beryl’s forecast and university officials will continue to monitor conditions in coordination with the National Weather Service. Students, faculty and staff should continue to monitor Sea Aggie Alerts, campus email, campus social media (@AggiesByTheSea), and the Galveston Campus mobile app (App Store & Google Play) for information specific to campus impacts as the situation evolves.
