Fisheries Ecology Lab

About the Lab

Our lab’s research centers on the community and population ecology of aquatic organisms, with a special emphasis on marine fishes. We are particularly interested in linkages between habitat selection, individual responses, and survival. Our work is both laboratory and field-based, and we typically use both quantitative and experimental approaches to elucidate the importance of biotic and abiotic factors that influence the growth and survival of fishes. We also employ a variety of novel tools (e.g., geochemical markers in hard parts, acoustic/satellite telemetry) to characterize the habitat requirements, migration pathways, and population connectivity of estuarine, coastal, and pelagic fauna, with a special emphasis on highly migratory species.
