When paired with a Learning Management System, assessment tools facilitate students and instructors to improve their learning experience. Here are some options available for Texas A&M users:

It is a peer assessment technology, that improves writing and critical thinking skills by engaging students in the role of the teacher. Peerceptiv supports writing across the curriculum and is also effective for other types of assignments—such as presentations, videos, art projects, business plans, and legal briefs—that require formative feedback. It does not need to download any software as it is fully integrated with eCampus at no charge for students and instructors.

It is a  tool for creating and managing exams that can be printed to paper or published directly to Canvas. It allows instructors to create an assessment database and reuse information to create new exams. We provide a university-wide site license for Respondus, which is available at no cost for instructors.

Turnitin provides instructors with the tools to engage students in the writing process, provide personalized feedback, and assess student progress over time. It is recommended for plagiarism detection, citations, peer review, and paperless grading.

Adobe Creative Suite 
It gives you a variety number of apps and services for video, design, photography, and the web. It contains the entire collection of 20+ creative desktop and mobile apps including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Adobe Spark Premium. If you are faculty and/or staff please contact to get a free membership as part of a A&M System-wide Adobe Contract. Camtasia Studio & Snagit
Camtasia Studio is a screen recorder and video editor to record and create professional-looking videos on Windows and Mac.  Snagit is a screenshot program that captures video display and audio output. Visit the Texas A&M Software Center to download Camtasia Studio (and Snagit) for a one-time cost of only $25.

Mediasite is the university's standardized streaming media system that provides either public or private access to video and audio content. Mediasite integrates with eCampus. Implementation in progress.

Techsmith Relay
or Camtasia Relay  is a powerful tool that allows you to quickly record, publish, and stream screen presentations. You can get it at not cost. For more information click the corresponding button below.

Learning Management System    


Canvas is the current Learning Management System that supports online learning and teaching. Canvas is a secure, modern, centralized system that allows the user to create a course structure. The collaborative workspace enables the user to design lessons, develop content, and maintain active communication and interaction with students.

Canvas Roles

Canvas Roles can be added by instructors and administrators for both course management and member management for Canvas courses.

Course, Teaching, and Student roles are assigned via Compass by the registrar office.

Observer type roles
in Canvas such as Faculty Peer Evaluator, Student Peer Mentor, Transcriber, Librarian, and Visiting Student are assigned via Compass through SWASECT by the department administrator.

Course associate roles
such as Course Designer, Grader, Teaching Assistant, and Lead Teaching Assistant are assigned via ORCA by the Instructor of Record or the Academic Liaison.

Student Response System    


iClicker is an interactive classroom response system allowing educators to poll students in class, view the results immediately, and then provide feedback. This can be used for class discussion, attendance, and testing. Texas A&M University Galveston provides this software for instructors and students at no additional cost to them.

Training in LinkedIn Learning    

The Texas A&M University community now has access to more than 13,000 courses at no charge, thanks to LinkedIn Learning (LiL) and the Office for Academic Innovation.

Texas A&M upgraded to LiL from, which was acquired by LinkedIn Learning. All saved files, certificates and progress from users were transferred to LiL during the upgrade.

Students can log in to with their NetID and password to learn:

  • Tips for crafting a resume and landing the perfect job
  • Hobbies such as drawing, playing an instrument and photography
  • Software skills including Adobe Creative Cloud, Office 365 and project management

Faculty can use LiL to discover supplemental material for their classes and polish skills such as:

  • Core strategies for teaching in higher education
  • Teaching with technology
  • Creating effective learning assessments

Users can associate their personal LinkedIn account with LiL so course completion certificates appear on their profile.
