If you are meeting with the SLC for mandatory Spring advising, please download and complete the guide for your current major. For additional details, click on the below “Spring Advising Process” tab.

Spring Advising Process

If you are in mandatory first year advising with the Seibel Learning Center, you will need to complete the following steps for Spring semester advising:

  1. Complete your interactive degree guide

Download the interactive degree guide for your current major from the tab above. You can then follow the directions on the guide to indicate courses you have completed and those you are planning to take next Fall (and summer if applicable). If you intend to change majors, be sure to tell us in the notes area. If you are unsure how to know what courses/core areas you have completed, click on the “Using Your Degree Evaluation” tab below.

  1. E-mail your guide to slc@tamug.edu

Once you have completed filling it out, save your degree guide. Then, e-mail it to slc@tamug.edu with the subject “Degree Guide – Lastname”. If you prefer to print a copy of your guide and bring it to your appointment, that is fine as well!

  1. Meet with your advisor to discuss your plans

Just like in the Fall semester, you should then set up a meeting with your SLC academic advisor via TutorTrac! Please note that if you do not send in or bring your degree guide, your appointment will have to be rescheduled. Additionally, if you are more than five minutes late, there will be sufficient time to complete an appointment.

Using Your Degree Evaluation

Once logged into your Howdy account, navigate to the ‘My Record’ tab. At the bottom of the middle column, find the ‘Degree Evaluation’ box. Click on the ‘View Degree Evaluation’ link.

You will then select the current term and click submit. You should see your current major information; click ‘Generate New Evaluation’ at the bottom of the page. Click the checkbox next to your Program of study and select the current term, then click the ‘Generate Request’ button. You will then select ‘Detail Requirements’ and click submit – you are now viewing your Degree Evaluation!

As you scroll down, you will see that all requirements for your degree are included, broken into sections by what type of requirement it is. Your major requirements are listed first, then all core requirement areas, and finally university level requirements. The requirement is listed on the left-hand side of the page; on the right-hand side, courses you have completed (or are currently in) are aligned with what requirement they fulfill. In the header for each requirement area, it is noted if the area requirements are ‘Met’ or ‘Not Met’.

Looking through your degree evaluation, you can view what areas you have completed; mark these in blue on your interactive degree guide. For any areas where you selected from a variety of options, be sure you choose the course you took from the drop down on your guide.
