Hagler Fellow Dr. Jean-Paul Rodrigue Enhances Academic Experience at Galveston Campus    

This year, Texas A&M University at Galveston welcomed Dr. Jean-Paul Rodrigue, professor in the Department of Global Studies and Geography at Hofstra University, to campus as a Hagler Fellow. The Hagler Institute for Advanced Study at Texas A&M University (formerly the Texas A&M University Institute for Advanced Study) annually invites prominent scholars to the university to pursue advanced study with Texas A&M’s faculty and students. 

Dr. Rodrigue is a leading transportation geographer specializing in mobility, freight distribution, containerization, logistics and transport terminals. He is one of the world’s top 2% cited scientists, having authored seven books, 32 book chapters and more than 60 peer-reviewed papers. He has also presented at more than 175 conferences and seminars, many internationally. 

During his time at Texas A&M - Galveston, Rodrigue worked in collaboration with the Departments of Engineering and Maritime Administration to advance his research and enrich the academic experience of students. As part of the largest class of Hagler fellows to date, Dr. Rodrigue was selected as a Jerry and Kay Cox-Heep Distinguished Faculty chair, a high honor in the fellowship. 

“Texas A&M University’s Hagler Fellowship provided a unique research and teaching opportunity at the Galveston campus, allowing me to interact with researchers, students, and other faculty,” said Dr. Rodrigue. “I am enthusiastic about being able to continue this relationship over the coming years.”

Though he returned to his home university at the end of January, his expertise in maritime supply chain logistics was an asset to the Department of Maritime Administration here in Galveston. “We have been so inspired by the impact of Dr. Rodrigue’s Hagler Fellowship residency! His collaborations have enhanced the research and student experience on this campus, elevating our visibility on the international stage," said Dr. Deborah Thomas, Chief Academic Officer of the Galveston campus. “We look forward to building on the momentum of his residency with long-term faculty and student collaborations!”
