New Director of Marketing and Communications Announced

Rebecca WattsThe Texas A&M University at Galveston Office of the Chief Operating Officer is pleased to announce Rebecca Watts as TAMUG’s new director of the Division of Marketing and Communications, effective June 1, 2019. In this role, she will report directly to Chief Operating Officer Col. Michael E. Fossum '80.

As director, Rebecca will be responsible for directing the development and implementation of the university’s marketing and communication plan. She will also oversee production of university media, policies and procedures, in line with branding and messaging standards set by Texas A&M University branding and marketing, along with providing outreach with media and external stakeholders to enhance and expand the reputation of TAMUG.

Rebecca most recently served as Director of Projects for the Division of Marketing and Communications at Texas A&M University in College Station, providing strategic direction and coordination of large marketing and communications events, including resources, personnel, cross-channel and multi-partner marketing, alignment and performance. Some of the high-profile campaigns she has helped manage include the inaugural “Step In. Stand Up.” campaign, “Aggies United” event, Texas A&M University South-by-Southwest showcases, and the interments of President George H.W. Bush and former First Lady Barbara Bush on the campus of Texas A&M.

Prior to working for Texas A&M University, Rebecca held positions as Marketing and Communications Manager and Senior Communications Specialist for The Texas A&M University System Office of Marketing and Communications.

She has a deep understanding of our campus and the unique opportunities it offers. With the growing number of achievements from both our students and faculty, I am excited to have Rebecca on my team to help connect us with our stakeholders, grow our audiences and tell our story on every level; regionally, nationally and globally," added Col. Fossum.

Rebecca brings with her a wealth of knowledge and passion from her years of service with both The Texas A&M University System and Texas A&M University. She will work with leadership on all levels to continue building working relationships across the TAMUG and College Station campuses to enhance Galveston’s reputation and marketing, branding and communications efforts.
