August 8, 2018

The Texas A&M University at Galveston summer 2018 commencement with 86 graduates is the largest summer graduation in the institution's 56-year history. The event is 1 of 3 Texas A&M University commencements representing more than 2,200 degrees awarded between the College Station, Galveston and Doha, Qatar campuses.

Marine Transportation degrees represent the largest percentage of Galveston graduates. "This record number of summer graduates on our Galveston campus shows the determination and character of these young leaders who worked hard this summer, many of whom I sailed with as they completed their last requirements in a Summer Sea Term," said Chief Operating Officer, Col Michael E. Fossum. "I am very proud of all of our graduates this summer for their accomplishments and I know they are well prepared for the futures ahead of them."

Texas A&M Galveston commencement ceremonies end with a moving and time-honored sea tradition whereby the striking of the ship's bell signifies a change of watch. At the close of each graduation ceremony, the graduate with the highest grade point average strikes a ship's bell eight times reflecting the change of watch; the graduating class has achieved their goals and the graduates are embarking on the next stage of their lives.

Texas A&M University at Galveston' summer 2018 Commencement is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 11th, at the Grand 1894 Opera House located at 2020 Post Office Street in Galveston.

Guests are encouraged to park in the garage at 2100 Market Street. Limited parking is also available in lots located on the corner of 21st and Post Office Street, 21st and Market Street, 20th and Post Office Street, and pay by phone street spaces throughout the downtown Galveston area. Fees are required for each parking area. Improperly parked vehicles are subject to towing at the owner's expense.
