Record Enrollment for Texas A&M Galveston’s Fall 2017 Semester    

Texas A&M University at Galveston reports another record enrollment of 2,483 for Fall 2017. The comprehensive enrollment is 2,507 which includes 453 engineering students from the Texas A&M College of Engineering in College Station, Texas and 24 non-enrolled Texas A&M graduate student teaching assistants.

That is the fifth year of record comprehensive enrollments for the university resulting in a 25 percent increase over the past five years. Currently the institution has 65 percent male and 35 percent female students from 43 states and 21 countries”

“I believe this university’s continued growth is due to the increased awareness our graduates are in high demand for the rewarding careers we offer,” said Chief Operating Officer Col. Michael E. Fossum. “This institution is well-known for its world class marine and maritime programs, faculty, and research which impacts our state, nation, and world.”

A new degree program offered for the first time this fall is Tourism and Coastal Community Development. This concentration transforms students into a new class of professionals with the knowledge and skills to help coastal communities progress, while maintaining sound ecological and environmental practices. Graduates have the capability to guide industry and communities toward a path that is both sustainable and economically beneficial.

Another new program to launch this fall is a freshmen learning community program called “First Scholars.” Thirty new students, all of which are the firsts in their family to pursue a college degree, were selected to participate in the program and receive a four year scholarship. These students are mentored by senior students who are themselves first-generation students.
