A universal study tip is to do most of your solo studying in a relaxed space, where you can focus and turn your attention away from the bustling and distractions of the rest of the world. Red Light Coffee Roasters, a coffee shop frequented by college communities, is a great place to do just that, and to stop by and grab a delicious pick-me-up to get you through your study session. Located on Market Street in Galveston, conveniently around the corner of the Strand, Red Light—so named for its location in the Red Light District—is also an excellent place to visit to get a sense of the quieter corners of Galveston’s island life, particularly in the weekday evenings.

Inside Red Light, you’ll be greeted with ambience, diligent service, an abundance of sweet smells, and a cozy layout making for an ideal atmosphere to sit and study or wind down for a while. Some of the best hours to go find a study space in the coffee shop are right before sunset, a couple hours before closing time at 7:00 PM, when the place usually grows quieter and more relaxed, the busier and louder hours being around lunchtime between 12:00 and 2:00. With multiple windows surrounding the room, there is also a generous amount of natural light allowed inside on sunny days and clear evenings. Free wifi is offered inside Red Light as well, and both spacious and individual tables are provided for various group sizes.

Aside from a relaxing atmosphere with pleasant natural lighting away from the livelier parts of the city, Red Light of course offers variety in their selection of drinks and snacks to choose from. The coffee shop’s popular brews like the refreshing iced Hive Five, or their smooth warm Mocha Lattes, for example, not only make for perfect energy boosts to help get you get through your set of flashcards, essay rough draft, or your weekly course reading, but are also great for while you’re calming down after a day’s hard work. Additionally, for those less inclined to coffee, there is a selection of fresh teas and uniquely flavored carbonated drinks as well. The sole downside generally shared among Red Light’s college crowd is that if you are planning to, for instance, drink multiple coffees during your stay, you may find it to be on the pricier side.

All in all, Red Light Coffee Roasters makes for an ideal spot to stop by for your next study session pick-me-up, or to simply relax and unwind for a while. With their warm ambience, and their diverse selections, Red Light can easily become a student’s next favorite hangout and coffee place.
