"I'm positive proof that it IS possible to get a meaningful job with a BA degree. Actually the MAST degree has been really helpful in my CG career. The courses in maritime history (thank you Dr Willett) and environmental law (Mr. Glenn) and policy (Dr. V-Z) are topics that have made regular appearances in discussions that I have been involved in. OPA-90 was especially important during DEEPWATER HORIZION and SUPERSTORM SANDY and the SOLAS and UNCLOS knowledge is helpful when briefing vessel detentions that the Coast Guard is responsible for."

"Whether it's sailing around Charleston Harbor, or rigging down one of the largest museum ships in the country, the classes I took and skills I learned while at A&M are immensely valuable. The practical and theoretical knowledge gained in classes like Elissa Seamanship Training, Traditional Shipbuilding Tools, and Traditional Shipbuilding Techniques provided me with a leg up on others as entered the tall ships fleet. It was certainly the rich history of closes like Texas Maritime History and History of American Seapower that instilled in me a passion for the conservation and preservation of both the ships and the culture that I now surround myself with."
