Campus Legacy

Texas A&M University at Galveston has a rich history endearing it to the state of Texas, Galveston and the sea. Since its founding in 1962 as the “Texas Maritime Academy of Texas A&M University,” it has grown and expanded thanks to those benefactors and supporters who had a love of Galveston Island, Texas A&M University and a belief in a need for a Gulf Coast marine and maritime university from the very beginning.

Among the many supporters of TAMUG, the Mitchell and Moody families are largely responsible for laying the groundwork that has made TAMUG into the successful ocean-oriented place of higher education it is today. We are and continue to be grateful for the legacy they have left us so that we may in turn inspire others to leave their own.

We are honored to display photos of both the Mitchells and the Moody family in our Aggie Special Events Center (ASEC) building.
