All continuing students must complete the University Scholarship Application (USA) to qualify for any institutional scholarships. The application is open from October 15th to February 1st and must be completed each academic year. The USA can be found on the link below:

Description:

Stanley Vaughn, who funds this scholarship, stated, “I would like to give a scholarship to a deserving Maritime cadet in memory of my father, Captain J.L. “Buster” Vaughn. It doesn’t matter whether it is engineer or deck, as my father was equally at home in engine room and the wheel house.”

Description:

Distributions from this endowment will be used to provide an award at spring graduation to the top Maritime Academy graduate, based on academic standing, i.e. the top GPR graduate.

Description:

Distributions from this endowment will be used to provide one or more scholarships to an academic junior Texas A&M Maritime Academy student who has been a continuous member of the A&M Galveston Propeller Club since their freshman year. The award will go to the most outstanding incoming junior student in the Propeller Club, based on academics and leadership skills, as determined by the scholarship selection committee.

Captain and Ms. Jack Smith Academic Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship is given to an outstanding senior deck cadet student on previous summer cruise.

Criteria:

  • Required: A scholarship for the outstanding senior deck cadet on the summer cruise as selected by a majority vote of all deck officers aboard the training vessel at the conclusion of the summer cruise, with the highest ranking officer casting the winning vote in the event of a tie. In selecting the outstanding senior deck cadet, the officers shall select the student who demonstrates the most skills, knowledge, and aptitude for serving as a US Merchant Marine Officer.

Description:

This scholarship is given to an outstanding deck license option cadet and who was evaluated and selected by the instructor for Shiphandling III (MART 422). The following criteria will be used in selecting the outstanding deck cadet: the cadet who through their work in the ship simulator has best demonstrated the most skills, knowledge, and aptitude for the piloting profession. Student must have taken the course during the Fall and Spring semester of the previous year.

Captain Mark Hicks Memorial Scholarship
Captain Mark Hicks Memorial Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established in memory of Captain Mark Hicks, a graduate of U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and Harbor Pilot for Port of Freeport. Captain Hicks was a member of the Brazos Pilots and was killed disembarking a ship during a storm on June 24, 1989. This scholarship was endowed as the final activity of the Propeller Club of the Port of Freeport.

Criteria:

  • Required: Texas A&M Maritime Academy Cadet
  • Required: A student who has been selected as a Student Ambassador of TAMUG
  • Required: The recipient may be any worthy student pursuing a seagoing career in the maritime industry
  • Preference: Address of record is Brazoria County or county in the same region if student from Brazoria County is not available
  • Renewal: Recipients are eligible for multi-year awards and may be reconsidered at the discretion of the committee

Description:

This scholarship is geared toward students interested in a career in the energy industry that are looking for outstanding challenges and seeking opportunities commensurate with their skills and abilities.

Dave and Jeanne Hedgepeth Dynamic Positioning Scholarship
Dave and Jeanne Hedgepeth Dynamic Positioning Scholarship

Description:

Distributions from this gift will be used to provide awards to full-time cadets in good standing pursuing an undergraduate degree in a deck license option degree program. Recipients will need to provide proof of successfully completing degree program (diploma), Dynamic Positioning Induction course (DP Induction Certificate), and all requirements of the license option program (USCG License).

Criteria:

  • Required: Full-time enrollment
  • Required: LO program - Deck
  • Required: Proof of successfully completing Dynamic Positioning Induction Course
  • Required: Proof of successfully completing all requirements of the license option program (USCG License)
  • Preference: First tie breaker determined by the earliest application date for Award Program
  • Preference: Second tie breaker will be determined with highest GPA
  • Required: Must have paid for DP course rather than attended a company sponsored course

The Houston Pilot Association through its Anchor Watch Fund (501©(3)organization) provides financial aid to students at Texas A&M University at Galveston.

Description:

The Ingram lee Foundation Texas A&M Maritime Academy Scholarship was established in 2017 by the Ingram lee Foundation to provide one or more scholarships to worthy and deserving members of the Texas A&M Maritime Academy from the Galveston Campus.

Description:

This scholarship is endowed by J.M. Sterling, Class of ‘71, Texas A&M Maritime Academy, in honor of his parents, Jim and Betty Sterling, Class of ‘38. SOURCE OF FUNDS: SYSTEM Student receives a plaque. Academic department heads select, as well as Corps Advisor, Commander of Cadets, Officer in Charge, and Naval Science Dept.

  • Required: Student who is preparing him/herself for a commission in the United States Naval Reserve through either the NROTC program or the MMR, USNR program, or their successor programs at this university

Morton S. Bouchard Jr. Memorial Scholarship

Description:

Bouchard Transportation Co., Inc. will be proving an annual scholarship in the memory of Morton S. Bouchard Jr. Bouchard Transportation Co., Inc. is the nation’s largest independently owned ocean going petroleum barge company.  This scholarship is named after Bouchard’s former President and CEO, Mr. Morton S. Bouchard Jr., who was passionate about the Maritime Industry and giving back to others. This scholarship is intended to award current Marine Transportation students studying at Texas A&M University at Galveston.

  • Pursuit of deck license and a TOAR (Towing Officers Assessment Record)
  • Demonstrated leadership skills

Description:

The Ryan Brown Davis Memorial Scholarship will provide one or more full time students pursuing a degree in Marine Transportation a scholarship for the academic year.

Thomas B. Crowley, Sr. Memorial Scholarship
Thomas B. Crowley, Sr. Memorial Scholarship

Description:

The Thomas B. Crowley, Sr. Memorial Scholarship will recognize students who demonstrate the achievement and leadership ability to successfully pursue careers in the maritime industry. The Donor will provide a scholarship award for two (2) students who are enrolled in Texas A&M License Option program for deck officers and one (1) student enrolled in Texas A&M’s program for engine officers. Each Spring semester three (3) $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to students in good standing to three (3) students who will be either in their Junior or entering their Senior year the following Fall semester.

  • Required: Cadet biography with high resolution color photo must be submitted with completed application package
  • Required: Applicants are required to write a short essay discussing their interest in sailing with Crowley
  • Preference: Former recipients will be given preference
Tug Valour Memorial Scholarship
Tug Valour Memorial Scholarship

Description:

The purpose of this scholarship is to support maritime education by granting this scholarship to students pursuing careers as U.S. Merchant Seaman. The Tug Valour Memorial Fund has also established a similar scholarship at the SUNY Maritime & Mass. Maritime Schools. Selections must be made by 04/01.

  • Required: Demonstrated honors and distinctions, as determined by the selection committee
  • Required: Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Required: LO Program
  • Required: Community service and leadership within the Texas A&M Maritime Academy, as determined by the selection committee

  • Preference: Nominations encouraged from all Texas A&M Maritime Academy staff and faculty
William Paul Ricker Memorial Corps Commander Scholarship
William Paul Ricker Memorial Corps Commander Scholarship

Description:

The William P. Ricker Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to recognize leadership and excellence among students. This scholarship is awarded to individuals demonstrating the promise and commitment of William Paul Ricker, a Corp Commander at the time of his death. Ricker served as a Corp Commander from 1974-1975 and was killed in a tragic automobile accident. The Ricker family estate established an endowment which funds this scholarship. Leadership, grades, and extracurricular activities are the priority criteria for awarding this scholarship.

  • Required: The recipient is selected as the Corps Commander by the Texas A&M Maritime Academy Superintendent and the Commandant.
