Welcome to the Center for Marine Training and Safety professional mariner education.  Our professional mariner training is offered in partnership with the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Services.

Our goal is to offer our students professional development and training to build and maintain your skills in all phases of your profession and to offer amateur mariners professional skills.  CMTS programs are designed to combine industry knowledge with hands-on practical experience with the latest equipment to meet your needs. 

Our instructors are highly qualified and certified professionals who bring years of real world experience to the education environment.  Courses are offered at our Galveston Campuses on Pelican Island and Offats Bayou as well as our College Station Campus at the Brayton Fire Training Field.

STCW Flashing Light Communication $150 per person         STCW Flashing Light

Any applicant successfully completing this course will satisfy the practical signaling examination requirements (flashing light) of 46 CFR11.401(h) if presented within one year of the completion of training and will be considered to have successfully demonstrated the equivalent of assessment OICNW-44-1A from the National Assessment Guidelines for Table A-II/1 of the STCW Code.

STCW Radar Renewal U.S.C.G. Approved $225 per person STCW Flashing Light

This one-day class satisfies all the requirements for the CFR mandated five-year renewal of all radar endorsements. This class provides a review of the relative motion triangle and tests the student using an approved radar navigation simulator.

PEC Safe Gulf Basic Orientation $300 per person    Coming Soon!

The PEC Basic Orientation safety awareness course includes both SafeGulf andSafeLandUSA. PEC Basic was designed to take the place of multiple Operator orientations and to give each student a general idea of life and safety issues in the oil and gas industry, upstream, downstream, onshore or offshore. This one-day program meets API RP 75 & API RP T-1 requirements and provides a basic understanding at an awareness level of certain general safety information that an employee should know before entering a company facility and while performing their assigned work duties. Over 25 of the leading oil and gas operators accept this orientation as it meets their requirements. Upon successful completion of course, each student is issued a picture ID with a unique barcode. The student information is then stored in an online database.

First Aide and CPR for Mariners $70 per person    Coming Soon!

The Basic Life Support (BLS) for Mariners is an NAUI approved Classroom Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.  First Aid is a NAUI approved classroom, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills to respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives. Students learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies.

STCW Marine Medical Provider $550 per person    Coming Soon! 

The Medical Care Provider course provides training to mariners seeking to complete the requirements to provide medical first aid on board ships.  Any student who successfully completes the training and presenting a certificate of training within 5 years to a US Coast Guard Regional Examination Center (REC) will satisfy the Medical First Aid training requirements of Section A-Vl/4 and table A-Vi/4-1 of the Seafarers' Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (SCTW) Code and 46 CFR 12.13.1.

PREREQUISITE:  Completion of U.S. Coast Guard approved Elementary First Aid and CPR course or equivalent.

Refund Policy for all course fees.

Due to costs incurred to provide facilities, equipment and personnel, course fees are non-refundable according to the following schedule:

  • 90 or greater days, 100% of course fee refunded
  • 31-89 days, 75% of course fee refunded
  • 15-30 days, 50% of course fee refund
  • 14 days or less, No Refund
