            Description of Components   

 

  1.        Participate in Coaching program - this program matches a cadet with a faculty/staff member who will work with the cadet to build leadership skills and discuss/reinforce the experiences relevant to becoming a strong leader.  The program is further detailed under the Coaching program summary.

  2. 2.      Complete Record of Accomplishments in Self Portfolio - A Portfolio of all leadership experiences will be maintained by all participants to demonstrate progress, reflection and understanding. The program is further detailed under the Self portfolio program summary.                                                                

  3. 3.      Complete Wellness Assessment – A wellness assessment has been developed by the Department of Physical Education located in the P.E Facility.  Assessments are performed by appointment to allow students to develop a better understanding of their health and well-being which translates into higher performance in all other aspects of life. 

  4. 4.      Member of university recognized student organization – Nearly 50 student clubs and organizations allow students to get involved with a wide variety of activities.  Student Government, civic, athletic, professional, and social clubs allow students to further interact with others and hone their communication and time management skills.  Information can be obtained through attending Organizations Night at the beginning of each semester or stopping by the Office of Student Life.

  5. 5.      Compete on Varsity Team – The varsity Sailing and Rowing team require hard work, determination, time management, and teamwork. Information concerning contacting the coaches can be obtained through the Office of Student Life.  

  6. 6.      Complete StrengthsQuest Program – The StrengthsQuest program is offered once a semester through the Office of Student Life and allows students completing the StrengthsQuest personality assessment to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and others.  This five day workshop includes in depth discussions and interaction with other personality types to better familiarize the student with their personal strengths.

  7. 7.       Participate in civic responsibilities – Serving their community is a high priority of servant leaders across the world.  For every 4 hours of service to a recognized Galveston organization, participants will receive 1 point for up to 4 pts/year.

  8. 8.      Participate in informal leadership lectures or seminars – Several educational lectures and seminars are offered each year to increase awareness and insight into the workings of the world.  These activities are advertised across campus and through the campus internet email system.  These can include TAMUG workshops, as well as, leadership conferences that the Office of Student Life invites you to attend at other universities.

  9. 9.      Cumulative Grade Point Ratio 2.5 or greater    - Academics and understanding in the classroom are critical and the primary reason for a cadet attending Texas A&M University at Galveston.  Without performance in the classroom, there is no performance as a student leader.

  10. 10.  Campus Disciplinary Hours less than 10 – Living in a campus community with all of its diverse aspects and obeying the rules necessary to thrive is an important precursor to working with others in a professional atmosphere.
