What is a USC Member?

Here is some basic information regarding what you might expect as a representative on the University Staff Council:

Council meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month and will be available via TTVN or Skype in Galveston. The meeting time does rotate. Meetings in the odd-numbered months are held at 8:30 am on West Campus and meetings in the even- numbered months are held at 1:30 pm on Main Campus. The meetings are planned to last 2 hours. You can find the meeting schedule and locations on the USC website at staff.tamu.edu.

USC Committees
Each USC member serves and participates on at least one USC committee. The Galveston representative is required to serve on the Staff Emergency Fund Committee (SEF) committee. In addition, there are several other standing committees on which to serve at the representative’s discretion, as well as ad hoc committee opportunities. Committee meetings vary in frequency from “as-needed” to “year-round”. A big part of what the USC is trying to accomplish is done in these committees. Your active participation will be instrumental in helping the USC accomplish its goals and objectives. For more information on the standing committees, please visit the Resources for Representatives web page.

Monthly Luncheon
USC hosts a monthly luncheon and while participation is encouraged, attendance is voluntary. No official council business is conducted at these events; their purpose is to help council members network and get to know one another and to share ideas in an open and relaxed setting.

Liaison to the TAMUG Staff Council (TSC)
The University Staff Council Representative will be required to serve as a liaison to the TSC, keeping current members informed of USC activities, committee updates and decisions by attending TSC meetings as needed.
