Fishing Camp ages 13-17

Fishing Camp is an intensive study of fish, fishing, and just about everything else there is to know about these slimy, cold-blooded, but amazing creatures. Campers will even study the food chain through fish gut analysis. What does it take to catch fish? Who manages our fisheries and how? What does it mean to be a responsible fisherman?

Learn how important our marine sport-fisheries are. Learn about fishing's impact to the ecology of our marine ecosystem. The daily trips offered in this Sea Camp include offshore snapper fishing, bay, pier, wade, and surf fishing. To understand the management aspect of fishing, a trip will be taken to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Marine Fish Hatchery in Lake Jackson. A tour through Liberty Seafood in Galveston, a wholesale fish market, will give much insight to the commercial components of fishing. The campers will learn many aspects of fishing such as:

  • how to tie knots
  • how to cast
  • how to clean fish
  • and much more

On top of having a lot of fun just plain fishing, campers will learn about the ecology and science behind fishing.
