The Terry Foundation Scholarship at Texas A&M University at Galveston

What is the Terry Foundation Scholarship?

Howard and Nancy Terry were long-time residents of Houston, where Mr. Terry was successful in a variety of businesses, ranging from banking to oil and gas. In 1986, the Terry family decided to help young people to help themselves by setting up an educational foundation. Mr. Terry had always been grateful for the financial assistance that enabled him to go to college, so they decided to dedicate their time and resources to giving future generations of young people in Texas this same opportunity.

How is the amount of the Terry Scholarship determined?

Taking into account other scholarships that a student may receive, the Foundation provides sufficient assistance to cover tuition, books, fees, and reasonable living expenses on campus. The actual specific amount of the stipend will vary for each Scholar, depending on the other scholarship awards and the ability of the Scholar’s family to contribute to the cost of college. The Foundation encourages Scholars to apply for other scholarships or grants or any other financial assistance for which they may be qualified, so that the Foundation’s financial resources may be extended to help as many students as possible; however, it is the Foundation’s intent that Traditional Scholars will not need to incur student loan debt.

What about Pell Grants?

A Pell Grant is a federal grant for undergraduate students with financial need. Terry Traditional Scholar applicants must complete the FAFSA, and Terry Scholars who qualify for Pell Grants will automatically be awarded in the financial aid awarding process. Receiving a Pell Grant does not disqualify an applicant from being awarded a Terry Scholarship.

Are Terry Traditional Scholars required to live on campus?
