ICSA/Vanguard Singlehanded Nationals 2005
(11.18.05 - 11.20.05) University of Hawaii
REGATTA HIGHLIGHTS:
Friday November 18, 2005 - Day One
Beautiful day in the mid 80's with breeze from 4 - 18 knots starting at noon and ending just after 5 pm. Very shifty and lots of velocity changes. Due to unfavorable wind forecasts for the weekend the Race Committee completed a lot of racing today (10 races in each division) leaving only 6 races (in each division) to complete the series. Both fleet leaders (Andrew Campbell and Paige Railey) have reasonable score advantages at this point. As of this posting there have not been any protests filed. Racing is scheduled to continue tomorrow at 10 am.
Saturday November 19, 2005 - Day Two Final Day
Beautiful weather again but considerably lighter air (3-8 knots). Wind-Leeward courses starting at 10:30am finished the series (total sixteen races in each division) by shortly after 2pm. Andrew Campbell (Georgetown 06) sailed consistently to retain his lead in the Men's Championship to win his third Glen Foster Singled-Handed Collegiate Men's Championship (in his Fresh, Junior and Senior Years). Andrew is the first person to win three of these events.
In the Women's event Yale Senior Molly Carapiet had a solid day to pass Friday's fleet leader Paige Railey (Freshman South Florida) to win the Jane Ludtz Collegiate Single-handed Women's Championship.
No protests were filed throughout the event. Big thanks to Andy Johnson and the UH Sailing Team; Vanguard Sailboats; Jury Members Joe Cochran, John Myrdal, Mike Pinckney & Graham Woodworth; the UH Athletic Department and Honolulu Community College Marine Center Staff.
Tonight there will be a banquet and awards on the beach in Waikiki at the Elks Club Lodge.
