TAMUG SAIL TEAM

RANKED 20th NATIONALLY!!

TAMUG Sail Team recently sailed in the North American Sloop Championship, held at SUNY Maritime College in the Bronx, New York November 7-9.   Sailors attending this regatta are Bill Self, Hugh Haggerty, Scott Stanton, and Andrew McInnes.  The regatta was in many different types of breeze, with the biggest gusts hitting 30+mph down to somewhat moderate/light breeze.  The Team ended up 6th out of 10 competing teams from around the nation.

TAMUG Sail Team also sent two sailors to the North American Single-handed Championship, held at Eckerd College in Tampa Bay, Florida November 21-23.  Bill Self and Hugh Haggerty both qualified to go to Nationals at the District regatta in Austin, Texas, hosted by U. of Texas.  The three day event was full of difficult and very close racing with predominately light wind.  The most consistent sailors did the best overall as the difficult wind shifts made very interesting racing on the water.

This semester was a great learning experience for all of our sailor with the exposure of the national scene, and being able to bring back those experiences to the practice waters.  This is the first time TAMUG Sail Team has ever been ranked in the Top 20 by Sailing World Magazine.  Visit www.sailingworld.com to see the list.
