Hot Work Permits

Hot work includes any activity that involves the use of an open flame or welding activities including arc-welding and oxy-acetylene welding or cutting. Conducting these types of operations on campus requires a permit and specific measures be taken to prevent the possibility of a fire occurring on campus. Please contact the Safety office at (409) 741-4055 for more information and permit applications.

Hands on Fire Extinguisher Training

Have you ever had to use a fire extinguisher? Chances are that you haven't, but recent surveys indicate that over 47% of all individuals will be in a situation in which a fire extinguisher will be needed in their lifetime. Will you know how to operate the extinguisher or know how to select the right extinguisher for the type of fire? Throughout the year, the Safety Office will offer hands-on fire extinguisher training on an as needed basis. Classes require a minimum of 20 individuals and may be requested through the Safety Office by calling (409) 741-4055.

Sprinkler System Shutdowns

Occasionally, routine maintenance must be performed on various buildings equipped with sprinkler systems and/or renovation activities on the campus. When doing so, all work must be performed by a licensed contractor specifically permitted to work on sprinkler systems by the State of Texas. Prior to work a shutdown request must be completely filled out at the Safety Office and specific measures taken to ensure the safety of the building occupants and contents. For more information regarding a sprinkler system shutdown, please call the Safety Office at (409) 741-4055.
