College Station's Research Week
Student Research Week is an opportunity for the research
community of Texas A&M to join together and showcase the breadth
and quality of student research being conducted on our campus.
Graduate Student Council (GSC) sponsors the annual event as a way
to promote the importance of research in our community.
Registration is now open for the 11th Annual Student Research
Week! Events take place from March 24, 2008 through March 28,
2008. Competition days will be held on Tuesday, March 25-
Thursday, March 27.Registration deadline is March 1, 2008.

Graduate Student Research Excellence Award
The Research Excellence Award will be presented to
one M.S. and one Ph.D. TAMU graduate student conducting
marine-related research at the TAMUG campus or being advised by a
TAMUG faculty member. Recipient will receive a $1000 award and a
plaque. This award is intended for graduate students who have
completed their research.
To apply, please submit completed application materials
electronically in a single PDF file to Alice Maffay at
maffaya@tamug.edu no later than 4:00 p.m. on Monday March 3,
2008.
Erma Lee and Luke Mooney Graduate Student Travel Grant
Research-related travel grants of $500 or more will
be awarded to TAMU/TAMUG graduate students conducting
marine-related research at the TAMUG campus or being advised by a
TAMUG faculty member. Funds may be used for travel to attend a
scientific meeting or a field site. Preference is given to poster
or oral presentations and fieldwork. Travel must be to an
off-campus (Galveston and College Station) location. Funds may be
used for international travel. Grants are limited to one per year
and may not be received in two consecutive academic years. Travel
must occur within six months of the grant. Grants received by
students not on A&M payroll may be considered taxable income.

Interdisciplinary Account Support for
Incoming Graduate Students
TAMUG expects to support up to
four incoming graduate students in College Station departments
working with Galveston faculty members. Support is for graduate
students during the fall and spring semesters (9 months of
support) and is non-renewable. TAMU Graduate Admission Application
packet must be complete by deadline. A nomination letter,
including delineation of support for student research and
assistantship in subsequent years and a copy of the complete
admission application packet must be submitted by the nominating
faculty member to the TAMUG Research and Graduate Studies Office
by Monday, March 3, 2008. This should be submitted electronically
in a single PDF file to Alice Maffay at maffaya@tamug.edu.

Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences
Program Number: 06425 Title: Graduate Internship
Program. The sponsor offers in-residence internships for M.S. and
Ph.D candidates to conduct thesis research in marine sciences and

Program Number: 84689 The sponsor offers a
sponsorship award to a graduate student either pursuing a
course of studies which embrace at least one relevant
component area of marine science, underwater technology or

Bage Scholarship
Fellowships are awarded to women for Ph.D. studies, in a wide
range of disciplines including marine biology, architecture, law,
literature, radiography, mathematics, social work, archaeology,
economics, molecular biology, management, music, information
technology and performing arts. The value of the Fellowships is
equivalent to an Australian Postgraduate Award ($19,231 in 2006)
plus 10% for a maximum of three years. Deadline(s): 06/30/2008
American Academy of Underwater Sciences Student Scholarships
Program Number: 72837 The sponsor awards two
scholarships to graduate students engaged in, or planning to
begin, a research project in which diving is or will be used
as a principle research tool. The Kevin Gurr Scholarship
awards $2500.00 to a Masters program student, and the Kathy
Johnston Scholarship awards $2500.00 to a Ph.D. candidate. The
AAUS may also award two additional $1500.00 scholarships to
the next two proposals that are ranked the highest. Deadline(s):

Asche Memorial Scholarships

Elizabeth and Sherman Asche Memorial Scholarships in the
amount of $1,500 each to graduate and undergraduate students
