Public Transportation System

Island Transit, the City Of Galveston's public transportation system, provides fixed-route, ADA-accessible bus service. The Island Transit service area covers 27 square miles of Galveston Island, including convenient routes to TAMUG and UTMB.

Island Transit also operates Dial-A-Ride Transit (DART), a curb-to-curb service for persons unable to use the regular fixed-route bus service because of a disability. DART services must be scheduled 24 hours in advance.

Persons traveling to and from UTMB for medical care may be eligible to use the Island Transit fixed-route bus service or curb-to-curb service at no cost. Patients only need to show the driver proof of a scheduled hospital or clinic appointment or pharmacy visit to ride free. People who accompany patients to provide assistance or children under 18 years of age traveling with a patient are also eligible to ride at no cost.

Fixed-route buses and Dial-a-Ride vehicles run Monday through Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 6 p.m., including holidays.

Intercity Bus Service

Galveston is accessible from any region of Texas via the state’s extensive intercity bus network. Kerrville Bus Company provides daily bus service between Houston’s Greyhound Terminal and Galveston Island. Contact Greyhound Lines for further information.

Airport Information

Galveston Island is served by the Houston Airport System, including George Bush Intercontinental Airport and William P. Hobby Airport.

Scholes International Airport at Galveston offers charter flights to Galveston Island. 

Ground Transportation From Houston Airports

Rental cars are available from the major rental car companies at both George Bush Intercontinental Airport and William P. Hobby Airport.

Shuttle services operate between the Houston airports and Galveston.
