Fishing
The campus of Texas A&M University at
Galveston does not include any fishing facilities for the public. Due to
significant safety and security concerns TAMUG only allows current
students, current TAMUG employees and approved guests to fish on property
owned or controlled by TAMUG. Approved guests must be accompanied by an
affiliated individual.
For those approved to fish on TAMUG
property, fishing is only permitted on the Mitchell Campus on Pelican
Island.
Policies for Fishing on TAMUG Property
-
Guests of affiliated students and
employees are permitted to fish only when in the presence of a TAMUG
student or employee. Employees and students are responsible for the
conduct, compliance, safety and actions of their guests.
-
All children must be in the immediate care
of an adult. Children 12 years old and under must wear an approved USCG
flotation device while on TAMUG docks and piers, as well as when in or
near water. In addition to danger presented by the proximity of the ship
channel, equipment and vehicles in the vicinity of authorized fishing
areas can pose a strong danger to unsupervised children.
-
Fishing is permitted from USTS TEXAS
CLIPPER dock when the ship is in port. The finger pier is closed to
everyone until repairs are made. Fishing is allowed on the beach during
daylight hours, between the bow of the USTS TEXAS CLIPPER to the Pelican
Island Causeway. Fishing is allowed at night only on the USTS TEXAS
CLIPPER dock in lighted areas. Fishing from the dock may be limited or
forbidden during training, repairs and cruise preparation.
-
No wade fishing is allowed in the oil
spill compound, the small boat basin, the Oceanography docks or any
areas marked as "No Fishing". Trespassing or fishing on the Center for
Marine Training and Safety, Teichman Road property is strictly
prohibited.
-
All persons fishing must have a valid Texas fishing license with a salt
water stamp.
-
No alcoholic beverages are allowed on-campus at any time.
-
All vehicle operators on-campus must obey traffic signs and directions
from University Police officers.
Vehicles operated on-campus without a valid campus parking hang-tag must
be registered with University
Police and display a temporary TAMUG pass.
-
Vehicles may be parked in the parking lot adjacent to the USTS TEXAS
CLIPPER dock. Parking on the USTS TEXAS CLIPPER dock, Oceanography dock,
beach area or within fire lanes is strictly prohibited. Vehicles in
violation of these policies will be cited and possibly towed.
-
All persons fishing are responsible for any trash or debris they
accumulate while on TAMUG property. Cleaning of fish is not allowed as
there are no fish cleaning stations. Waste should be completely removed
from the property, including trash and excess bait.
-
No exception to these rules can be made without the approval of the
TAMUG CEO or Executive Associate Vice President or their designated.
