Health Fair

The TAMUG Health Fair serves to enlighten students on the importance of obtaining and maintaining wellness and provide information concerning health, both of mind and body.   

Tentative guests include:

The Gulf Coast Center:  Provides several programs for individuals diagnosed with mental retardation and mental health issues (dual diagnosis), a transitional and permanent housing program for homeless individuals with mental illness, and HIV outreach services. The Center continues to provide treatment for individuals within their community while minimizing the number admitted to state facilities.

D' Feet Breast Cancer:  An organization that  works with other organizations to promote early detection of breast cancer and to provide breast cancer educational programs in Galveston county. They expand the fight for early detection of breast cancer through raising funds for free screening mammograms for uninsured, underserved women ages 40 - 65.

Central Coast Health Education (AHEC) activities educate family practice medical residents and nursing students in geriatrics and chroniccare management to meet the rapidly increasing health care needs of people.
 

Family Service Center of Galveston County is a private, not-for-profit agency dedicated to enhancing the potential for growth of individuals and families. The Center strives to help people pursue healthy, independent, and fulfilling lives through the provision of counseling, education, and related social services. The agency operates from offices in Galveston, Texas City, Baytown, Liberty, and Cleveland, Texas.

American Heart Association seeks to educate people in an attempt to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

UTM B Blood Bank UTMB Blood Bank supplies blood products to the UTMB Hospitals and Shriners Burn Institute. Approximately 1500 donations are needed every month to ensure that blood will be readily available should you or a loved one need the gift of life. The UTMB Blood Bank is a member of the American Association of Blood Banks and the South Central Association of Blood Banks. The blood donor room is located on the first floor of the John Sealy Annex Room 1.210.  Blood Bank hours are: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday  - 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday - 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.  The telephone number during business hours (409)772-4861; after hours (409)772-1524 or         1-888-437-6423.

UTMB Stark Diabetes Center The Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark Diabetes Center at the University of Texas Medical Branch is committed to leadership in diabetes care, education and research. Strategic objectives of the center are to provide multidisciplinary, state-of-the-art health care to people with diabetes in Southeast Texas; to develop a diabetes education program that not only serves patients in Southeast Texas but throughout the state through telehealth technology; to foster basic research in diabetes on campus and expand these efforts into nationally recognized programs.

DARS The Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, or DARS, administers programs that ensure Texas is a state where people with disabilities, and children who have developmental delays, enjoy the same opportunities as other Texans to live independent and productive lives.

Resource Crisis Center Galveston County:  Promotes the safety and well being of women, men, children and families and advocates for the prevention of family violence and sexual assault.

The AIDS Coalition of Coast is a state and federally funded nonprofit organization in Galveston, Texas, that provides a host of HIV and AIDS-related services. Not only do we have free anonymous on-site HIV testing once a week, AIDS info, and free case management services, but we also hold fund-raising events and provide education by going to local schools, churches, and health fairs, where we distribute information on protection and prevention of STDs. located on the corner of Winnie and 23rd Street
