Academic Exchange Program with Korea

Choi, Young-Chan, dean of the College of Ocean Science at Cheju National University in Korea and Dr. Bowen Loftin, vice president and CEO of TAMUG signed a memorandum of understanding to open an academic exchange program between the two universities.

Dr. Bowen Loftin and Dr. Bill Seitz, associate vice president for research and graduate studies, visited the Cheju National University in April to conduct in-depth discussions of the exchange programs for faculty and students.

Cheju National University is located on the island of Jeju off of the southern tip of South Korea, a one hour flight from Seoul.  The island is located almost equidistant from Seoul, Shanghai and Hiroshima.  The programs of the Ocean Sciences School of the university very closely match those at Texas A&M University at Galveston.

Once the program is agreed upon and passed, the academic exchange program could contribute to joint research projects between the two universities in the areas of engineering and ocean sciences.

“The ocean is something all of us on planet earth have in common and to understand it better, this type of joint research and academic exchange will enhance our understanding of each other and the world we live in,” commented Dr. Bowen Loftin.
