One Big
Day…One Big Thanks…One Big Event
Galveston,
Texas
- The Big Event is a one day service project which provides
the students of Texas A&M University an opportunity to give
back to the surrounding community. The service project
program originated by students in College Station in 1982 with
six students and has since become the largest, one-day,
student run, service project in the nation. From its humble
beginnings of six people wanting to say “thanks”, The Big
Event has expanded to include schools across the nation.
The Big
Event for the Galveston campus will be held Saturday, March
24, 2007 with over 200 students volunteering to help with
projects on Galveston Island.
“This is our
way of thanking the people of Galveston for all their support
of our campus,” said, Katie Mills, chair of the Big Event
Committee.
The Student
Government Association is seeking jobs and activities for this
year’s Big Event. If you have a one-day project and need some
healthy volunteers to get their hands dirty, please contact
the Student Government Association of Texas A&M University at
Galveston at (409) 740-4420.
Please leave a message with your name, the project, and your
contact information. You may submit
request by e-mail to TAMUGBigEvent@yahoo.com.
Local
churches are encouraged to submit request for elderly
parishioners who need a hand.
On Saturday,
March 24, 2007, the student volunteers will gather at the Mary
Moody Northen Student Center on the A&M Galveston campus at
9:00 a.m. to enjoy breakfast will then head out to the various
projects.
