The Texas Maritime Academy at Texas A&M University at Galveston presented scholarship awards to cadets during a ceremony on April 23, 2009. Cadets were awarded scholarships based on curricula, personal achievements, positions within the Corps of Cadets and academic standing. Texas A&M University at Galveston and Texas Maritime Academy graduate Jonathan Whitworth '89 was the keynote speaker. The scholarship was funded by the Propeller Club of Freeport. It is awarded to an individual who plans to pursue a seagoing career in the maritime field with preference given to residents of Brazoria County.
