Varsity and Offshore Sail Teams Victorious

Varsity Sailing Team (website)

The Varsity Sailing Team, won the first two of three spring conference championships. This past weekend, April 5 - 6, 2008, the women’s team finished first of five teams ahead of the University of Texas, Oklahoma, University of South Alabama, and Rice to qualifying Texas A&M University at Galveston for the Spring Intercollegiate National Championships.  The Championships will be held late in May in Newport Rhode Island.

During the previous weekend, March 29 - 30, 2008, the co-ed team won its conference championship over 12 other teams.

The remaining spring championship will be April 26-27 in Galveston.

Offshore Sailing Team (website)

The TAMUG Offshore Sail Team won first place at the Heald Bank Regatta during the weekend of April 5 - 6, 2008.  The Heald Bank Regatta is a 60 mile race in the Gulf of Mexico, sponsored by Lakewood Yacht Club in Houston.  The TAMUG crew took first place sailing the "Cynthia Woods."

The TAMU crew took third place sailing the "George Phydias." 

Congratulations to both teams for a job well done.
