Editor's Note: This page was posted on Friday, June 6, 2008. The photo of the crew above was taken prior to their departure. The pictures on the images page were taken during the start of the race. Images from the Start of the Race The 2008 Regata de Amigos is set to start at 2 p.m. today, Friday June 6, 2008. Due to high seas, the regatta will begin inside the Galveston jetties as opposed to its normal starting location near the Flagship Hotel in Galveston. They will be sailing on the Cynthia Woods, a Cape Fear 38R. The Regata de Amigos has been held every even-numbered year since 1968. Participants in the race sail from Galveston, Texas to Veracruz, Mexico. TAMUG placed fifth in 2006 while sailing the Cynthia Woods. This year, boat tracking technology was distributed to each participating team so that the race could be tracked online. To keep up with the Cynthia Woods, visit http://charthorizon.com/races/2008_galveston_veracruz/htdocs/ and select “Cynthia Woods” from the drop-down Pick a Boat menu on the left-hand side of the page.
