Current Project

My research focuses on understanding western gray whale relative abundance, distribution, movements, and other behavioral aspects as well as assessing potential impacts anthropogenic activity may have on this critically endangered population during their summering foraging period in the northeastern portion off Sakhalin Island, Russia.

Other Projects

Pythagoras is a computer based system that assist researchers with collecting, managing and analyzing theodolite, scan sampling, and focal follow based information.

Whaletrack II is a computer based system that was designed to collect and manage visual survey, passive acoustics, environmental, and survey vessel movement information. The network based system streamlines all recorded data from various research teams to any of the specified computers. Geographic displays illustrate locations of visual sightings, survey vessel, and acoustic contacts. Acoustic contact positional information is derived by interfacing with the Ishmael system.
