MASE Professional
Societies
Students on campus have chapters here at
TAMUG under the Engineering Council for many outstanding professional
societies. The students have the opportunity to be involved with and
compete in various competitions such as the concrete canoe competition and
the human powered submarine competition!
Student Chapters:
MTS (Marine Technology Society)
Faculty Advisor: Victoria Jones
jonesv@tamug.edu
MTS mission : (from MTS web page)
Disseminate marine science and technical
knowledge. Promote and support education for marine scientists, engineers
and technicians. Advance the development of tools and procedures required
to explore, study and further the responsible and sustainable use of the
oceans. Provide services that create a broader understanding of the
relevance of the marine sciences to other technologies, arts and human
affairs.
Human Powered Submarine – The MTS is proud
to be a major sponsor of the TAMUG HPS club. If you would like to
participate in its construction, e-mail Brian Newman at:
hpssubclub@yahoo.com
Meetings are every Tuesdays, 7:00 p.m. in
the engineering building.

ASME (American Society of Mechanical
Engineers)
Faculty Advisor: Raresh Pascali
rpascali@tamug.edu
ASME Overview: (from TAMUG ASME website)
Mechanical engineers are men and women who
design, develop, and manufacture machines that produce, transmit, or use
power. Wherever machines are produced or used, there are mechanical
engineers. They play a pivotal role in nearly everything that makes life
typical. From the seemingly simple object like a doorknob to complex
robots and spacecraft, there is hardly an area of everyday life that
hasn't been influenced by a mechanical engineer somewhere along the path
from invention to installation.
Central to these mechanical engineers is
ASME international, one of the world's largest engineering societies
dedicated to ensuring that mechanical engineers worldwide are up-to-date,
safety conscious, and committed it improving the technical well-being of
the world
