Greetings

Patrick_Louchouarnfrom Patrick Louchouarn,Ph.D. Interim Vice President and Chief Academic Officer and
Department Head of Marine Sciences Texas A&M University at Galveston

Welcome to the Marine Sciences Department (MARS).

Our Department is a dynamic and diverse environment where natural scientists meet social scientists with a common goal and passion, namely the study and understanding of marine environments. But Marine Sciences is only one of the common denominators that unite us. I invite you to browse through the Faculty personal web pages to have a taste for our diversity, and to see that our work extends into both the terrestrial and atmospheric environments, as well as the structure of human and social systems. But first, and foremost, we are educators on a small campus. This allows us to connect with our students in unique and personal ways. Although our Department is flourishing with an expanding enrollment, we still focus on offering exciting and personal undergraduate and graduate programs that are student-centered. You will find that our Faculty is progressive, innovative, and highly accessible, and that they are always ready to tailor specific research and academic projects to the need of students.

Our undergraduate programs include majors in marine sciences (MARS) or in ocean and coastal resources (OCRE), as well as minors in chemistry, geology, or ocean and coastal resources. Our graduate offerings include a graduate degree in marine resources management (MARM), with our Faculty also supporting students in a diversity of graduate degrees on our campus (Interdisciplinary Program in Marine Biology) and in TAMU’s Departments.
I hope you find the information on our website useful to your inquiries. However, if you have further questions after browsing this website, I invite you to visit or call.

Marine Sciences Department

Students in the Marine Sciences department concentrate on the physical, chemical, and geological sciences aspects of the marine, estuarine, and coastal environment. The coastal location of the campus provides students with the unique opportunity to acquire extensive hands-on field experience in addition to a solid base of academic instruction in chemistry, geology, physics, biology, and mathematics.
