Expected Student Accomplishments
 

The MARR program strives to provide a high-quality analytical education with an orientation towards problem solving. Since the objective of the program is to produce engineering graduates who, for the most part, can perform work involving the design, operation, maintenance, and management of marine-related engineering systems, the outcomes we seek pertain to the acquisition of relevant skills. Specifically, our goal is that MARR graduates should demonstrate the following before graduation:

  1. sufficient knowledge of fundamental scientific principles and computational techniques for application to marine engineering situations;

  2. ability to analyze, model, and solve technical problems in marine engineering, involving hydrodynamics, thermodynamics, electrical and power systems, and propulsion;

  3. ability to design, operate, and maintain marine systems or components, and to work with realistic constraints in a team setting when appropriate;

  4. ability to effectively present design/project reports or other technical material to appropriate audiences;

  5. an appreciation of the socioeconomic, geopolitical, ethical, and environmental issues that surround engineering in the marine environment; and

  6. an appreciation for the value of advanced study or professional development.
