Marine Biology Graduate IDP
Texas A&M University Graduate Program in Marine Biology

About the Program
The Interdisciplinary Graduate
Program in Marine Biology was approved by the Texas Higher Education
Coordinating Board late July 2008. The interdisciplinary program spans 3
campuses of Texas A&M University System and 6 Departments. The host department
of the program is the Department of Marine Biology on the Texas A&M University
at Galveston (TAMUG) campus. The Department of Marine Sciences is also located on the TAMUG campus. The Departments of Oceanography, Wildlife & Fisheries Science, and Biology participate in the program on the College Station campus (TAMU). The Department of Life Sciences is located on the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi campus.
Who Should Apply?
The Marine Biology Program is designed for students who wish to pursue careers in higher education, government, or private industry. This joint degree is unique in providing students an opportunity to choose courses from any campus and form committees with any of the participating faculty. The principal strengths of this marine biology program lie in the international recognition, scholarly productivity, and extramural funding of its diverse faculty, as well as the strategic location of two campuses on the Gulf of Mexico.
Program Details
The Interdisciplinary Graduate
Program in Marine Biology offers a doctoral (Ph.D.) degree, a master's thesis
degree (M.S.), and a non-thesis master's degree. The Ph.D. and M.S.- thesis
degrees are research related and interested students should seek out and contact
potential research advisors in the area of their interests before applying to
the program.
Note to Applicants
All doctoral and master's thesis degree applicants must identify a faculty advisor in their statement of purpose. Non-thesis Master’s degree applicants are assigned a faculty advisor upon acceptance at the Galveston campus. Applicants should work closely with their advisors regarding application requirements. Most students are accepted for the Fall semester. The priority deadline for completed applications for doctoral applicants is December 1. This date is related to funding opportunities. Applicants are able to apply after this date, but must realize that funding opportunities diminish throughout the following spring semester. For other deadlines and further details on how to apply, please visit Prospective Students.
