Time for a New Computer?

It is recommended that all computers be replaced every 4 to 5 years.

Why?
  • New software and operating system updates and versions often require better processing power, memory and storage to take advantage of new features.
  • Computer components start to deteriorate with the life of the computer due to heat and other environmental factors. Cooling fans start to fail causing other components to eventually fail.
Benefits of a New Computer
  • Faster boot up times
  • Greater productivity due to increased speed of operation
  • Reliability
  • Warranty for any issues
  • Ability to use new software and hardware features
We recommend that Departments look at  their computer inventory and implement a budgeting and replacement plan for any computers approaching 4 years old or older.

New Computer Requests

Please follow the steps below for ordering a new computing device (PC, tablet, laptop, etc.) and accessories.

  1. Please use the "New Computer Request Form" link at the bottom of this section to order a new computer.
  2. When the computer is delivered to your department, please add it to your departmental inventory.
  3. Please bring it to the Information Technology (IT) office in CLB 113 for set-up and general install.  When the machine is delivered to us, a liability form will need to be completed prior to IT working on the machine.
  4. Upon completion of install and set-up, a helpdesk ticket email will be sent notifying that the machine is ready.
  5. We will schedule a time with the end user to deliver the machine so a technician can configure Outlook to complete the set-up process.
