Protecting people and coastlines
A joint initiative between the College of Architecture at Texas A&M University (TAMU) and Texas A&M University at Galveston (TAMUG).
Increasing population growth and development in coastal areas worldwide is affecting both ecological systems and human communities. Understanding how to develop sustainable and resilient coastal communities over the long term has become a critical issue.
The ISCC is committed to addressing coastal development problems and helping provide sustainable state-wide and eventually worldwide solutions. The institute generates solutions to protect property, human lives, and critical natural resources.
The Institute acts as a living laboratory, attracting research activities of multiple centers on Texas A&M campuses in College Station and Galveston. Those centers include:
Center for Texas Beaches and Shores: http://www.tamug.edu/ctbs/
The institute provides research, teaching and learning opportunities for experts who are committed to establishing sustainable and resilient coastal communities. The ISCC also offers information resources and discussion forums for coastal communities.
