New Vice President and CEO Selected for A&M Galveston

COLLEGE STATION, March 4, 2005 – Dr. R. Bowen Loftin, executive director of the Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center at Old Dominion University, has been selected to fill the position of vice president and CEO of Texas A&M University at Galveston, Texas A&M Executive Vice President and Provost David B. Prior announced Friday.

Loftin’s appointment to head Texas A&M’s branch campus at Galveston will be effective May 25, pending approval of the chancellor and The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents.

“I have every confidence in Dr. Loftin’s ability to provide the leadership required to continue the growth in quality that the Galveston campus has experienced over the last decade,” Prior said in making the announcement.

Loftin holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. in physics from Rice University and a B.S. in physics from Texas A&M University. Before joining Old Dominion, he served as chair of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Houston and director of the NASA/University of Houston Virtual Environments Research Institute.

Loftin succeeds W. Michael Kemp, who left Texas A&M-Galveston to head Texas A&M University at Qatar, the university’s branch campus in Doha, Qatar.
