Description of Duties  & Responsibilities

Sea turtle technician: a technician is needed for logistical support of utility task vehicles
(UTVs) use in sea turtle monitoring on the upper Texas coast. This entails traveling from
Rollover Pass on the Bolivar peninsula to Surfside, TX where UTVs will be stored during the
nesting season. Tasks involved include ensuring a constant gas supply for UTVs, moving
UTVs using a truck and trailer. Moving UTVs involves transporting UTVs to Texas City for
maintenance and positioning UTVs up and down the coast. The sea turtle technician will also
assist Dr. Marshall in sea turtle response, handling of eggs, communicating with Padre Island
National Seashore, filling out data sheets, writing and filing reports for permits and funding
agencies. The technician will be responsible for numerous other duties including picking up
volunteers on the beach if needed, small maintenance of vehicles, equipment supplies other
miscellaneous tasks

Job Qualifications

Dependable, reliant early riser that has a valid Texas driver's license. Must be able to lift 50
lbs., have knowledge of safe operation of UTVs, how they work, and maintenance skills.
Must have prior experience in flipper-tagging, PIT tagging and collecting morphometrics of
sea turtles. Applicants with experience in tagging > 50 sea turtles are preferred. Must be
willing to work long hours during the nesting season (April 1st-July 15th) which includes
early mornings and weekends.
