Position Description

The Division of Foundational Sciences at Texas A&M University at Galveston (TAMUG) invites applications for a full-time (nine-month/year), non-tenure track Instructional Assistant Professor in Chemistry. A Ph.D. in Chemistry is preferred but a M.Sc. in Chemistry with relevant teaching experience will also be considered. While applications are welcome from all relevant disciplines in chemistry, there will be a special interest in the following areas (but not limited to): organic, analytical and biological chemistry/biochemistry. Experience in mentoring undergraduate students is considered a plus.

Faculty on the instructional professor track are expected to have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduate students and service to the university. He/she is expected to teach introductory chemistry courses and possibly other upper level chemistry courses as appropriate to TAMUG’s marine and maritime programs. Other duties include, but is not limited to, support of pedagogical programs to enhance student success in STEM courses.

As a branch campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, the Galveston campus functions much like a school or college within the larger university, to deliver ocean-oriented education, research, and public service in a variety of marine/maritime programs. It houses the only state maritime training academy located on the Gulf of Mexico. In addition the campus works in partnership with the College of Engineering to support growth in the interdisciplinary program and the freshman engineering entry to a major program. The campus also houses a robust undergraduate research program and all faculty are encouraged to participate.
