Position Details

The Department of Maritime Systems Engineering (MASE) at Texas A&M University at Galveston invites applicants for a non-tenure-track position in the Offshore and Coastal Systems Engineering program (OCSE) at the Instructional Assistant Professor level beginning as soon as Fall of 2014; higher levels may be considered for exceptional candidates. The Galveston campus is the ocean arm of Texas A&M University, and is located near the Gulf of Mexico and the city of Houston. The successful candidate will have earned at least a Bachelors and a graduate degree (Masters or Doctorate) in engineering from an institution recognized in the field. Relevant industry experience is highly desirable. Other qualifications that are not required but may be considered include: an earned Doctorate, expertise in ocean/offshore structures, and holding a PE license. It is also desirable that degrees be in one or more of the following areas: Civil-Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture and/or Ocean Engineering. OCSE is an undergraduate program within the MASE Department leading to a BS degree in engineering from Texas A&M University. The MASE Department educates students, conducts research, and provides service to the academic and industrial enterprises in the field of civil engineering in the marine environment. A core focus of the OCSE program is design of offshore structures for offshore oil drilling and production, and most graduates are employed in this field.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach approximately three classes in each of the Fall and Spring semesters; teaching during the summer semester is negotiable on an as-needed basis. The successful candidate will teach required Departmental courses relevant to his/her specific expertise, and may develop and teach elective courses in his/her specialty. This is predominantly a teaching position, so the successful candidate is expected to have an exceptionally strong commitment to excellence in teaching, student advising, and other interactions leading to overall student success. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in departmental and university service efforts, to be active in the profession, to supervise and mentor students, and to interact in a collegial way with current faculty.
