Position Description

This position fulfills both a lecturer and ship officer position as needed; participates in Texas Maritime Academy sea going courses every summer and integrates both academic and ship operations to maintain licensing and educational requirements.   Instructs two courses within the Marine Transportation Department (MART 301 and 306); helps facilitate ZOPT activities.  (ZOPT = designated time for Corps of Cadets Activity for license option students).  Also serve on committees and advise students on academic courses. Assist with new student orientation.

Required Education Qualifications and Training

Bachelor Degree with 2 years minimum experience as a Merchant Marine. A current United States Merchant Mariners Credentials (MMC) for 3rd Mate Unlimited or higher.  Must also hold a valid passport, TWIC and STCW. Current U.S. Coast Guard approved RADAR, ARPA, and ECDIS certification.

Prefered Education and Experience

Masters Degree with 5 years minimum experience as a Merchant Marine. A current United States Merchant Mariners Credential of Chief Mate Unlimited or higher supporting documents. Advanced understanding of marine electronics and computer operations.

Salary

$60,000.00/Year
